One Relationship, One Opportunity

“Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don’t recognize them.” – Ann Landers.

Every relationship has the potential to open a door of positive opportunity.

Opportunity can be a big word to some people, for others it can be a terrifying word because it means they may have to step outside of their comfort zone.

I believe relationships are the foundation for opportunity, even if they are disguised as hard work. It may be hard work to build in the beginning or to keep the relationship going. However, I have found that nearly every time, hard work pays off. Relationships, whether they are personal or professional determine whether or not you want to create opportunities.

For me, opportunity means I might get to meet someone new and learn how I can help them. Personally, I love networking, building relationships, and helping people. If I cannot help them directly, I do everything in my power to find them what they need.

One of my favorite examples of a door that opened for me is when I had the opportunity to join the Women’s Presidents Organization. Marla Noel, a chapter leader within the WPO, invited me to lunch after we connected on LinkedIn. She asked me to join her women’s professional group. I met with a group of amazing women, who were professionals in a variety of industries, and I loved them!  I now have a tribe of powerhouse women in my corner!

Most people often have a desire to help those who are willing to seek help and ask questions. If you are eagerly seeking opportunities for growth, find yourself mentors, and listen to their advice. By surrounding yourself with the right people, you will begin to feel more confident in who you are and be encouraged to grow both personally and professionally. I encourage you to also ask questions, and then ask more questions. Never be afraid to take no for an answer and keep going anyway. You are here for YOUR passions and purpose, keep going!

Adapting Leadership Styles Across Generations

Adapting Leadership Styles Across Generations

The roofing industry 40 years ago is not the same roofing industry it is today.

Whether you are the manual laborer or the person leading the team, I have learned every position is vital. Each individual brings a new dynamic and a much-need skillset to the team.

My Father, as the second generation in our family-run business has always upheld his managing style in a kind manner, as it was the norm in his generation. His style comes from the old-school thought, “You just do what you’re told, work hard and don’t ask questions”. Interestingly enough, I have watched him slowly adapt his style of leadership to cater to our younger generations learning styles. He, himself is also realizing the roofers of his day are different than today’s roofers in terms of how they want to be led/managed. Personally, my leadership style as the third generation has evolved into more of a leading style as opposed to a managing style.

Most people today want to know where they are headed in a particular job position and truly try to understand why they do the things they do in any given task. Even though I do have to manage our team members in certain situations, I try to encourage my team to make their own decisions. I have found my team members respond best if I can guide them by listening, answering their questions and allowing them to come to their own conclusions. They learn new things and become more efficient in their day to day tasks, ultimately finding the best solutions best for each individual job/project.

My generation is all about wanting to become more than just who we are told to be, learning how to do things better than what has been done before, and exercising effective communication methods. I believe in empowerment, not just for myself, but for the team I lead every day. When people hear the word empowerment, they take ownership and have a stronger sense of pride at the task in hand. They are more apt to accept their mistakes, learn from them, and thrive.

If you are leading a team with a multi-generational workforce, or just being bold in who you are, it is important to have respect for what the generations in your business have accomplished before you. They have plowed the path for us and our approach to integrating new ideas can result in a strong team who acknowledges each other’s strengths and creates a positive team environment.

5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Commercial Roofers

Shelter makes up the second component of the three basic human needs. It’s, therefore, safe to say that without shelter, life would be unbearable. Roofing forms a fundamental part of any structure’s makeup and acts as a barrier against various elements. Installing a quality roof on your commercial property goes a long way in ensuring its quality and the safety of inhabitants.

Commercial roofers come with a wealth of experience on how to install and fix roofs on commercial properties. If you’re looking to get a new roof installed or if your building suffers from a less-than-ideal roof, a commercial roofing company is your best bet at restoring your roof to its former glory. There’s always the temptation to go it alone or follow those seemingly countless online DIY tutorials but there are several benefits of hiring commercial roofers. Here’s a breakdown of the advantages of hiring professional commercial roofers.

Quality Assurance

Commercial buildings usually consist of a flat or almost flat surface, so they require a unique set of materials during construction or renovation. Commercial roofing contractors understand the roofing needs of your building and know the type of materials to use to ensure durability and quality. They know materials that work and materials to avoid and they can take you through different materials specific for your roof. These contractors also hire the best talent in the construction industry who are capable of delivering optimal roofing results.

Commercial roofers have years of experience under their belts, having worked on a variety of roofing projects. Their expertise and knowledge are indispensable assets. As such, they understand the importance of safety and deliver amazing results without error by using tried and tested techniques and proper materials. Often, these experts come in and survey the scale of the job in hand and can thereafter give accurate estimates of how much time the project is scheduled to take and the cost of the project.

Save on Costs

When it comes to commercial roof installation or renovation, achieving a quality finish while still keeping costs is every building owner’s dream. A commercial roofing specialist can procure all the roofing materials at a lower cost thanks to long-term relationships and previous dealings with suppliers.

Commercial roofers also have all the right tools needed to do the job so you don’t have to spend extra cash purchasing or hiring the necessary tools. While the objective of any roof installation or renovation should be a quality end-product, cost implications should ideally remain as low as possible.

Greater Safety

Installing or repairing commercial roofs is by no means a safe task and commercial roofers ensure the highest levels of safety when installing or renovating roofing for HOAs. Commercial roofing companies have all the necessary roofing equipment such as helmets, safety harnesses, and reflector jackets to ensure the safety of workers during roof installation.

Additionally, they have established protocols and procedures in place to help minimize accidents and put greater emphasis on safety. The workers are also well covered by medical insurance policies ensuring their health remains a priority all through.

Warranty Guarantee

Since a well-ventilated roof can last over 20 years in most states, you can’t wish to settle for less. With HOA roofers, you’ll get a warranty on your commercial building’s roof installation. Warranties cover the defects in the buildings (should they arise), increase the saleability of the building should you choose to sell, and make the building more attractive to potential tenants.

Getting a quality roof is an essential part of your commercial building’s finish. Hiring professionals for your roofing needs is the best way to get the job done. You won’t have to worry about the intricacies involved in the process and you can rest assured that your building’s roof receives the level of care that it deserves.
